Is GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One? No. Rockstar Games has announced GTA 6 only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you are still on a last-generation console, here is what that means and what your options are.

Which Consoles Can Play GTA 6?

  • PlayStation 5 (standard and Digital Edition)
  • Xbox Series X
  • Xbox Series S

GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026. See our release date page for the full timeline.

Why Is GTA 6 Not on PS4 or Xbox One?

Rockstar has not published a detailed explanation, but the reasons are easy to understand:

  • Hardware: Current consoles have much faster CPUs and SSD storage, which help with dense open worlds and fast loading.
  • Scale: Trailers show crowds, traffic and detail that older hardware would struggle with.
  • Focus: Building for one generation lets developers use the hardware fully.

Can I play GTA 6 on PS4 with backward compatibility?

No. Backward compatibility works the other way: PS5 can play many PS4 games, but PS4 cannot run PS5 games.

Can I stream GTA 6 to an older console?

No streaming option for GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One has been announced.

What About PC?

Rockstar has not announced a PC version yet. Historically, Rockstar has released PC versions of its big games after the console launch, but nothing is confirmed for GTA 6. Follow our GTA 6 PC release page for updates.

Upgrading Before Launch: Quick Checklist

  1. Check storage. GTA 6 will be a large download, so free up space before pre-loading.
  2. Choose your ecosystem. Think about where your friends and existing games are.
  3. Plan for pre-load. Digital buyers can download early. See our pre-load guide.
  4. Buy from trusted retailers. Avoid unofficial “PS4 versions” or download links; they are scams.

Beware of PS4 and Xbox One Scams

Any website, video or seller offering GTA 6 for PS4, Xbox One or mobile is not legitimate. These offers can lead to malware, account theft or lost money. Only buy from official stores and known retailers.
