GTA 6 explained: what we know one month before launch
Grand Theft Auto VI is the first new mainline GTA since GTA V in 2013, and it is now only weeks away. After two delays, the release date is set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Our November 19 release date guide tracks every change to the schedule, from the first trailer in December 2023 to the launch trailer in October 2026.
Where GTA 6 takes place
The series returns to Vice City, Rockstar’s version of Miami, but this time the city is only one part of a whole fictional state called Leonida. Trailers and screenshots have shown the island chain of the Leonida Keys, the wetlands of Grassrivers, the port town of Port Gellhorn, the industrial area of Ambrosia and the forests around Mount Kalaga. Our Vice City and Leonida map explainer walks through each region.
Who you play as
GTA 6 is built around a criminal couple. Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are the two playable leads, and their relationship drives the story told in the trailers. Around them, Rockstar has introduced characters such as Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Brian Heder and Raul Bautista. Our complete character guide covers what is known about each of them.
How to get ready for launch day
Pre-orders opened in June 2026. In the United States the Standard Edition is listed at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99; prices in Canada and other countries depend on the store. Digital buyers can pre-load the game from November 12, so it is ready the moment it unlocks. Before you start, our everything you need to know guide is the best single read.
What about PC?
Rockstar has not announced a PC version yet. In the past, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 reached PC months after their console launches, so a later PC release is possible but not confirmed. We will update our PC coverage the moment Rockstar says anything official.
